One study tracked the cortisol levels of men in two groups. A black tea placebo group consumed black tea four times per day for six weeks, while the other group drank black tea four times per day.
After this, they deliberately exposed both groups to stressful events to assess how they responded. In the placebo group, cortisol levels were lower than in the tea-drinking group at the six-week end. Additionally, the tea drinkers recovered more quickly from stress. There was also a report of similar findings in another article on green tea.
